TAMIU Celebrates World Teachers’ Day

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) celebrated World Teachers’ Day Wednesday with the induction of the first cohort of 37 Laredo Independent School District (LISD) Early College High School (ECHS) students into the TAMIU Pre-Ed Track.

The inductees are currently students enrolled in the LISD ECHS who have declared education and teaching as their desired future career.

During the induction, the students received a TAMIU RISE badge and were challenged to abide by the TAMIU code of Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence (RISE) as they complete their Pre-Ed experience while at the Early College High School.

This year, World Teacher’s Day Marks the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 International Labour Organization/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, shining a light on the need to support teachers. The Celebration also emphasizes on the importance of preparing qualified teachers.

Among those present during the ceremony were TAMIU College of Education Dean Dr. James O’Meara; Dr. Diana Linn, TAMIU chair of Curriculum and Pedagogy; Michelle Accardi, director of Policy and Partnerships, The National Board of Professional Teaching Standards; Israel Castilla, LISD ECHS principal; Pre-Ed students and their parents; and Francis Atwell representing Congressman Henry Cuéllar’s office.  

Inductees into the Pre-Ed Track include Karla Alavez, Ismael Arroyo, Aliza Bernal, Mayra Carreón, Juan Cerda, Yanelli Chapa, Jaime Cortez, Danniela De La Rosa,  Victor Delgado,  Guadalupe Espitia,  Leticia Figueroa,  Kellie Galván,  Jacqueline García, Ruth García, Verónica García,  Samantha Gómez,  Dora Guerrero,  Janelly Hernández, and Esperanza López.

Other inductees were Kristina Martínez, Jaquelyn Mendoza, Beatrice Morales, Angel Olmos, Andrea Ortiz, Oralia Ortiz, Lauren Paredes, Salvador Rios, Cenovia Rivera, Jazmine Rivera, Kassandra Rodríguez, Derly Rojo, Kimberly Succa, Jerusalem Treviño, Jackeline Valdez, Ashley Vázquez, Lesly Villa, and Andrea Villarreal.
